The Kansas City Chiefs began the draft with a series of surprises with the first official trade of the weekend when they dealt two extra picks to move up three slots from No. 9 to No. 6 in a deal with the Cleveland Browns to select LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, Now, with their second of two first-round choices, general manager Brett has decided to focus on help along the defensive front.

With the No. 29 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods.

Woods is an athletic freak who was a dominant presence inside for Clemson's front line. Weighing in at 6-3, 310 lbs., Woods has very real potential to come out of this draft as one of the best defenders in the entire class, but a down year for the Tigers (for the entire team in '25, really) with limited production kept him from being mentioned alongside more heralded prospects.

Brett Veach has made Peter Woods his second selection in the team's very important 2026 draft class.

Woods has three years experience with Clemson, and had 30 total tackles (3.5 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks last year. He's very stout against the run and has pass-rushing upside, but this is a traits bet for the Chiefs in the hopes that playing alongside and learning from Chris Jones can maximize his potential.

Speaking of Jones, Woods' selection leans further into the Chiefs' commitment to provide the veteran star with much more help along the interior going forward. The team's biggest defensive addition in free agency, former New England Patriots tackle Khyiris Tonga, gave K.C. a major upgrade from replacement-level veterans who had lingered on the roster for far too long. Woods, along with the return of last season's second-round pick, Omarr Norman-Lott, from a season shortened by injury, gives the Chiefs the most interior talent they've had in years.
